The Verse of the Day Widget for WP utilizes WordPress’s Database feature to store and access non-personally identifiable data. This data is stored to enhance the user experience by remembering settings and preferences, such as the language and display options selected by the user. We do not collect or track any personal information. All data stored is solely used to improve functionality and ensure a seamless experience when using the widget. The OpenAI API is used to translate the random Bible verse. This API also does not collect or process any personal data from users.
Data Usage: The data provided by both APIs (the random verse and the translated verse) is used solely for display purposes within the “Verse of the Day Widget for WP” plugin.
Third-Party Services
The daily Bible verses displayed by this plugin are bundled locally within the plugin itself (King James Version, KJV) and do not require any external service. When the verse language is set to English (the default), no verse-related network requests are made by the plugin at all.
When a language other than English is selected, the plugin uses the following third-party services:
- The Verse of the Day Widget for WP Translation API, accessible at https://www.freesmartphoneapps.com/verseoftheday/api/translate-verse/, which translates the day’s KJV verse into the selected language. This request is made server-side by the WordPress site itself — never by site visitors’ browsers — at most once per language per day, and the result is cached locally by WordPress until midnight. The only data sent is the verse text and the selected language code.
- The OpenAI API, which is used by the Translation API above to perform the translation into over 100 languages. Only the verse text and target language are processed.
Neither of these services receives, collects, or stores any personal data, visitor data, or site data.
